Dwight Yorke More Yorke Rumours
One more place that Dwight Yorke wil NOT be going is Aston Villa. David O'Leary has emphatically denied he is interested in signing the out-of-favour Blackburn striker. The Manager is quoted on BBC Sport as saying "To be fair, that surprises me. Dwight Yorke hasn't been mentioned to me at all. But I tell you Dwight Yorke won't be coming here under my management."

Sunday's Mirror had suggested that Doug Ellis (who sold Yorke to Man Utd for £12 million) thinks that the player would be a good 'free' transfer back to Villa. Ellis has always claimed credit for discovering Yorke on a pre-season tour of the Caribbean and bringing him over to England as a teenager. (25th July 2004)

Following an injury in Germany at the final game of Rovers pre-season tour, Brad Friedel is likely to miss all the remaining warm up matches. Some reports also suggest that Rovers number one keeper might still be unavailable at the start of the new campaign. SKY Sports quote Graeme Souness as saying "The one downside of the night is we've lost our goalkeeper and I don't think he'll take part in too much of pre-season after that. I think it's his kicking muscle at the top of his leg, which he's damaged before, so I don't think he'll play in the rest of our pre-season matches." (24th July 2004)

SSV Reutlingen 05
The Mini Tournament saw Rovers play SSV Reutlingen 05 in the first game. A goal in each half from Paul Gallagher (25 minutes each way) saw Rovers through to the final in Germany. Dwight Yorke
After Cole - Yorke could be next to move ...
The departure to Fulham of Andy Cole brings hopes that other new players might now be added to the squad before the new season. Manager Graeme Souness is quoted on BBC Sport as admitting that buying Yorke and Cole was probably a mistake. "The Yorke-Cole thing disappoints me because I am the man who spent the supporters' money. From now on I only want to work with men. I am not interested in having babies around." He hopes to find another midfield player and possibly another striker.

Reports today link Dwight Yorke with a possible move to Portsmouth after their expected target Ricardo Fuller (from Preston) failed two medicals. Teamtalk.com say "The problem could be Yorke's wages - although he may be available on a free transfer after scoring just eight Premiership goals last season."

The Lancashire Evening Telegraph quote the Manager slamming Yorke's lifestyle "He only has himself to blame, his social life has taken over from the business side. Unfortunately, although the lad might not see it now, he'll be 40 one day and he'll be unhappy with himself because he didn't give it everything he should have done." Meanwhile the striker claims that the rift with Souness is linked to an event on the training ground last seasons... Yorke says "Souness came over the top of me in a tackle during training. He could have broken my leg - I have absolutely no doubts about that. "Who knows what effect that would have had on my career. I was astonished when it happened. We have hardly spoken a word since - apart from the occasional 'Good morning' if we pass each other in the corridor."

Only this morning, Souness included Cole in his interview with The People, in which he listed Dwight Yorke as only number six in the striker pecking order.
