After
Cole - Yorke could be next to move ...
The departure to Fulham of Andy Cole
brings hopes that other new players might now be added to the squad
before the new season. Manager Graeme Souness is quoted on BBC
Sport as admitting that buying Yorke and Cole was probably a
mistake. "The Yorke-Cole thing disappoints me because I
am the man who spent the supporters' money. From now on I only want
to work with men. I am not interested in having babies around."
He hopes to find another midfield player and possibly another
striker.
Reports today link Dwight Yorke with a possible move to Portsmouth
after their expected target Ricardo Fuller (from Preston) failed
two medicals. Teamtalk.com
say "The problem could be Yorke's wages - although he may
be available on a free transfer after scoring just eight Premiership
goals last season."
The Lancashire Evening Telegraph quote the Manager slamming Yorke's
lifestyle "He only has himself to blame, his social life has
taken over from the business side. Unfortunately, although the lad
might not see it now, he'll be 40 one day and he'll be unhappy with
himself because he didn't give it everything he should have done."
Meanwhile the striker claims that the rift with Souness is linked
to an event on the training ground last seasons... Yorke says "Souness
came over the top of me in a tackle during training. He could have
broken my leg - I have absolutely no doubts about that. "Who knows
what effect that would have had on my career. I was astonished when
it happened. We have hardly spoken a word since - apart from the
occasional 'Good morning' if we pass each other in the corridor."

Chris Coleman confirmed this afternoon that Rovers £7.5

Only this morning, Souness included Cole in his interview

move for Flitcroft?? The
people report Leeds United might
have their eyes on Rovers former captain Gary Flitcroft. The paper
say that "New Elland Road boss Kevin Blackwell is willing to

stunned that Souness stripped him of the skipper's armband and is
also struggling to claim a first-team place."
Flitcroft was unhappy to loose the captaincy to Barry Ferguson, and
might now feel a move out of Ewood is inevitable.
The paper also believe that "Bolton boss Sam Allardyce could
turn to local-boy Flitcroft if he keeps drawing blanks with his bids
for other players." (18th July 2004)
