First away win & great team performance
Corry EvansLeon Best
JORDAN RHODES & LEON BEST

The Cherries finished with ten men, Rovers with three goals and two for leading scorer Jordan Rhodes. And by all account the 600 odd who traveled to the South coast were well rewarded with a great performance from a committed team, keen to bring home all the points. Team GB started with Leon Best & Jordan Rhodes together up front, and the combination certainly seemed to work. The home side scored first, but it was ruled out as off side - so when Rhodes made it 1-0 to the visitors, it was the first time they'd scored first away from home this season. Leon Best, who returned to action at Ewood last week, made it 0-2 after 23 minutes, and Jordan made it 3 when he scored from the spot just before the break. Despite not adding to their tally it was a game they dominated, with a 20-9 shots ration against the hosts, who ended the tie with 10 men when Richard Hughes was shown the red card. Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe conceded that they were beaten by "the better team", telling reporters. "They have some clinical players who showed in the final third how dangerous they can be." Gary Bowyer was rightly delighted with the result, saying:- "Jordan Rhodes has great ability in front of goal and is a natural finisher. His (first) goal was stunning and brave because he was prepared to put his head in where it hurts, bearing in mind he has his arm in plaster. We were outstanding in the first half, excellent. I'm delighted for the fans because it is a long way to come and we have given them an away win. We've spoken a lot about scoring the first goal, which is something we've not done until today, and we carried out the game plan perfectly."
So a first away win of the season and Rovers moved up to 11th and return to Ewood on Tuesday to host Watford, who beat Wigan 1-0 this afternoon. (28th September 2013)

Blackburn Rovers 0

First clean sheet of the season
125

Rovers claimed their first clean sheet of the campaign as thye failed to break down the Huddersfield Town defenses - and that despite the Championships top two scorers both in action! Jordan Rhodes and James Vaughan seemed to have been scoring goals for fun, but on a late summer Saturday at Ewood - neither could find the back of the net. Former Rover John Stead started for the visitors - but was back on the bench just after the break. Tommy Spurr, Scott Dann, Tom Cairney all came close, but not close enough.
Gay Bowyer seemed happy enough with the point at the end of a busy week with the draw at Burnley and defeat at Leicester. He told reporters "I'm happy with the clean sheet because it's our first of the season and that was against the leading goalscorer in the Championship, which was a positive for us. But at the other end I think for long spells we dominated the game in terms of possession. Crosses and shots stats weigh heavily in our favour but we haven't been cute enough in the final third. If you look at the game itself, Huddersfield changed their formation four times so that's a massive compliment to us and the air of disappointment around the place shows how far we've come so quickly with this young team." The result leaved Blackburn 14th in the table and a long trip down at AFC Bournemouth next weekend hoping for a win (21st September 2013)

Controversy & two Pens but no points for Rovers
Corry Evans
JORDAN RHODES
Leicester City isn't a happy hunting ground for Rovers - but the 2-1 scoreline doesn't tell the whole story of the game tonight.Like at Burnley at the weekend, it was the home side who seemed to have control in the first half, and Lloyd Dyer gave them the lead after just quarter of an hour. It looked like Rovers would go in at the break only 1-0 down - but a controversial penalty was awarded following a challenge on Ritchie De Laet by Tommy Spurr. David Nugent converted in the 45th minute, so 2-0 down the game had a very different feel. To their credit Blackburn came back out far more organised and deserved their penalty when Chris Taylor was challenged by Danny Drinkwater. Jordan Rhodes claimed his 4th of the season and game on! It looked like Rovers had the equaliser when Scott Dann headed home - but the officials decided it hadn't crossed the line. Gary Bowyer was left very frustrated - but the game ended with a 2-1 defeat and Rovers dropped to 13th place in the Championship. And there's little time to recover with Huddersfield Town at Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon. They'll want to sort out their slow starts and get back into winning ways with just a single point taken from their last two games. (17th September 2013)

A worthy draw at Turf Moore
Corry Evans
JORDAN RHODES
THE derby away game of the season kicked off at Turf Moore with 34 years still in tact since the Clarets last beat Rovers, But it was the home side who looked the sharpest in the first half and beat Rovers on possession and chances. But despite all the pressure, it was still 0-0 at the break, and Rovers needed to take it up a gear - which they did, creating all the chances and forcing the Burnley keeper into making some quality saves. The breakthrough came moments after Junior Stanislas had been brought on, when Danny Ings set him up to cracking a cracking goal in the 75th minute. The goal was against the run of play, and Blackburn looked for their equaliser for a a further ten minutes. Michael Duff's clearance hit Jordan Road's and the ball catapulted into the Burnley next! 1-1 and 85'00 on the clock. It looked like Danny Ings might steal it for the Clarets with a run that would have put him one on one with Jake Kean. Rovers sub Lee Williamson could do little other than stop him in his tracks and after only two minutes on the park - pick up a red card. So Year 35 when the two sides next meet, and a delighted Gary Boyer told BBC sport: "When we go 1-0 down with just over 10 minutes to go, and the average age of the team is 22, you do wonder and question how they're going to react. But, in this environment, we've got nothing but praise for them because they came back with a fantastic attitude and spirit, and in my opinion fully deserved the equaliser."
Rovers are next at Leicester City on Tuesday night, who beat Wigan 2-0 at home this afternoon (14th September 2013)
