Great
game - good point - but another Liverpool injury.
Liverpool will want to stop playing games at Ewood, after another
one of their players picked up a bad injury in an innocent incident.
Djibril Cisse suffered a suspected broken leg after he went
down following a tackle from Jay McEveley. The player had treatment
on the pitch before being rushed to hospital.
The event picked up all the headlines, on a day that saw Rovers
raise their game, and introduce Jay Bothropyds and McEveley into
the action. John Arne Riise gave the visitors an early lead,
but a first goal for Bothroyd quickly brought Rovers level.
Then with seconds to go before the break, Brett Emerton slotted
home a lovely ball to give Sparky's men the lead. It was a McEveley
error from a free kick that allowed Liverpool to go level, Baros
putting the ball past Friedel.
Great entertainment, and probably a fair result. And the point
took Rovers off the bottom spot in the table. bbc.co.uk(full

"Get
tough" message ahead of Liverpool clash
The Sun run an article suggesting that a bit more 'attitude'
might help Rovers in the quest to pick up points and pull away
from the bottom of the table. The quote Craig Short saying “Mark
and his staff reckon we are too quiet on the pitch. He wants
us to fall out more and have a go at each other. There has never
been a rift between the players but there were problems between
the previous manager, Graeme Souness, and some players. As a
group we are very close and maybe we just need to be more critical
to get more out of each other. The paper say that Mark Hughes
admits that he is concerned by the lack of self-criticism among
his squad. “Maybe they are accepting mistakes a bit too easily.
A bit of criticism from another player can often be a better
option and more helpful to the team.” (30th Cotober 2004) the

Could past players have made
a difference?
Brad Friedel is quoted by ITV Sport as saying that the loss
of a host of important names from Ewood over the last few years
could explain Rovers present plight - at the bottom of the table.
Brad said, "If you look at the squad and compare it to two
years ago, it is completely different. There have been a lot
of changes and it is annoying because we had a squad a couple
of years ago full of internationals. Then one summer we got
rid of Hakan Sukur, Henning Berg, Martin Taylor, David Dunn,
Damien Duff, John Curtis, Craig Hignett, Keith Gillespie and
Alan Mahon. One fell swoop in a close season and all these players
were gone. You'll have to ask the board or the previous management
team why it happened. We just have to get on with it." (29th

"There
is not the slightest doubt we have the right manager" (John
Williams)
BBC Sport report the full support
of the Rovers Chief Executive for beleaguered Manager Mark Hughes.
Rovers have conceded in 8 goals in the last two matches alone,
and only scored 7 all season - but John Williams told BBC Radio
Lancashire "We were delighted to get Mark and we're
still delighted to have him. We have had some disappointing
results but it is a long season and there is always a transitional
period. There is not the slightest doubt we have the right manager.
He has recruited a good team around him as well. It has been
a difficult start for the club full stop. But Mark is an excellent
manager." Rovers hit the bottom of the table on Sunday when Southampton
picked up a home point in a 0-0 draw. Next up is Liverpool which
will prove another tough test on Saturday (at 17:15) live on
SKY. (26th October 2004) bbc.co.uk

Same
sad story again - this time at Chelsea Another
hat trick and a goal from Damien Duff rubbed further salt in
Rovers wounds as the latest trip to London saw another four
hit the back of the net.
Eidur Gudjohnsen scored twice in two minutes in the first half,
Then again four minutes after the break. Rovers former favourite
Damien Duff made it 4-0 on 74 minutes. Rovers also made it 50
games with NO penalty - so an historic day at Stamford Bridge.
It's the first time the Blackburn blues have lost to Chelsea
in the last 11 encounters - won 6 and drawn five - until today.

Could
Wes Brown be a target for Sparky ??
ITV Sports have reacted to rumours that Wes Brown might be making
the short trip up the M61 to Ewood. They say that Mark Hughes
has refused to get involved in the speculation, Some papers
have reported that the club are ready to splash out £2m for
the England international when the transfer window opens in
January. But Mark Hughes told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph:
"There's a lot of speculation about a lot of players at the
moment. I think it's just that time of the year. But, obviously,
I'm interested in good players if they become available." (19th

Tugay
to go, or not to go ??? SKY
Sports (and a number of other sites) report an interview given
by Tugay to the LIG TV football channel In it the Rovers midfielder
appears says that he would be interested in a move away from
Ewood - possibly to Besiktas "If an offer comes in then why
not? Nobody wants to play football anymore. The manager left
and that's how it is now. Now, I'm looking for new alternatives.
Receiving an offer from Besiktas would be a source of pride
but there is no offer at the moment. If there is an offer and
I agree with my club, I would gladly play." HOWEVER, Rovers official website
clearly contradict the story. They say the the player is very
angry about the reports and quote him as saying "I have been
associated with various comments suggesting that there is disharmony
at Blackburn. I would like to make it clear that I have made
no such comments and, to the contrary, I am enjoying playing
at Rovers more than ever. I wish to support Mark Hughes and
the new management team in ensuring that we go from strength
to strength." (19th October 2004) SKY

Jones
for Hughes ???
BBC Sport report that Mark Hughes is believed to be ready to
make a bid for Crewe Alexandra's Northern Ireland striker Steve
Jones. "I've been told that a few clubs have shown interest.
The most exciting one I've heard is Blackburn," Jones told
the Sunday Life newspaper. "Mark came to Crewe and it coincided
with me playing well and scoring." ''A move to the Premiership
would be a dream come true as you can't get much better than
that. ''But at the minute I have to keep scoring goals for Crewe
or none of that will happen.'' (17th October 2004) bbc.co.uk

Hat-Trick
for Hasselbaink, as Rovers go down 4-0 at home to 'Boro
The sending of on half an hour
of Tugay, for a second yellow, made a tough game against Middlesbrough
even harder - but Rovers held out 'till half time (0-0). After
the break Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink scored within a minute, and
then added two more, plus one for George Boateng to make it
a miserable day at Ewood Park. Rovers had a goal disallowed
for offside, and hit the woodwork, but it's probably best to
forget the worst defeat this season. (16th October 2004) bbc.co.uk

Pedersen
gets some United advice. SKY
Sports report that Norwegian star Morten Gamst Pedersen has
been getting some words of advice from fellow Countryman Ole
Gunnar Solskjaer as he tries to settle in at Rovers.
SKY quote the player as telling Norwegian TV "I can't
be bitter. There is no reason for that. I was not chosen in
the team for one game. There are more major players than me
that have been taken out of the team. Ole Gunnar had told me
that I have to continue working hard, and shout and scream a
bit in training. Solskjaer knows better than most that it goes
a bit up and down in the life as a professional football player.
It was nice of him to get in touch and talk. I appreciated that.(7th

Captain
Happy at Rovers - official! And top marks for Mark(s) The
Evening Times in Scotland have a full interview with Barry Ferguson
ahead of his International duties. Following rumours North of
the border that the former Rangers man might be heading back
up the M6, Barry told the paper .... Of the Rangers reports,
he said: "It's news to me. I am flattered to be linked with
Rangers - I think the world of the place and I'll never hide
that. I've always said I'm down at Blackburn playing in a league
I have always wanted to play in. I haven't pondered coming back.
People know I come home a lot
to see my family and they suggest I'm homesick, but it's nonsense.
I am settled at Blackburn, as are my wife and kids. So, I am happy. And I am really
enjoying it with the new manager. He is really quiet, but the
two coaches he has brought in are excellent, so training is
really good. The manager is
playing me in a new position which I really enjoy. "Tugay is sitting back with
Youri Djorkaeff - who is some player - and me in front of him
and Paul Dickov ahead of us. At
the start of the season I was back playing the position I had
when Dick Advocaat first came to Rangers, sitting deeper. But
I definitely prefer going forward." (7th October 2004) Evening

Blackburn Rover 2 - Aston Villa
2
Youri Djorkaeff made his first start for Rovers at Ewood Park,
and in their 400th Premiership games (200 at home) Blackburn
came from a goal down to lead 2-1 and the concede again late
on to share the points. It was a fast paced game from the start
- and end-to-end to the finish. Angel opened the scoring for
Villa after 24 minutes, but Rovers were level again 5 minutes
later thanks to some lovely work from Paul Dickov and scorer
Barry Ferguson. After the break it was Brrett Emerton who provide
a superb finish to make it 2-1 (62 mins) - but then Villa scored
again from a set piece with just ten minutes to go. Mark Hughes
was pleased with much of the performance, but concede that work
had to be done to tighten up defensive errors. rovers.co.uk(Youri
