Under
the knife ..
Blackburn Rovers have confirmed that Matt Jansen has undergone
surgery today to sort out his latest injury blow.
The good news is that Mark Bowen told the clubs official website
that it was only minor surgery, and Matt could be back in action
within 'two to three weeks'. Jansen came off at half time after
scoring the opener in Rovers 3-3 draw at home to Birmingham
City. There had been suggestions that the operation might wait
'till the end of the season.
There's also news today of the progress being made by Lorenzo
Amoruso. Bowen says that his recovery will take longer, and
BBC Sport quote Rovers Assistant Manager as saying "There's
still some scar tissue present so it will be some weeks. It's
a case of see how he goes. You can't put a real time on a comeback,
we'll see how he progresses." (29th November 2004)

Two
Pauls - Two Goals - Three Points (and a penalty!) in "Huge
Win"
Rovers ended their win drought by picking up all three points
in an entertaining encounter at Craven Cottage. Beating Fulham
0-2 also lifted Blackburn to 16th place in the table - sadly
later games pushed them back to 17th on goal difference. Paul
Gallgher made it 2in two after he opened the scoring on 10 minutes,
and Paul Dickov scored from the penalty spot after Zat Knight
hand balled and was sent off for a second yellow.
Mark Hughes was delighted with the result - particularly the
clean sheet and a vast improvement in the teams defending. He
told BBC Sport that he thought play in the whole game was 'first
class'. In his tenth game in charge Hughes has seen great improvements,
now 5 games undefeated - the team look fitter and much more
committed as a unit. Hughes said that if Rovers keep up their
level of performances - relegation won't be an issue.
Former Rover - Fulham Manager Chris Coleman said Rovers deserved
the win - and his side didn't do anything like enough for any
of the spoils. Andy Cole got closest to score for the home side
- but Brad Friedel was more than a match for his old team mate.(27th

Fan
fined and banned for 5 years in Dwight Yorke case
BBC Sport report that 22 year old Jason Perryman from Chorley,
admitted a 'racially aggravated public order offence' before
Blackburn magistrates on Wednesday. David Ashcroft from Leyland
was bailed until 22 December, after he denied the same charge,
and his case was adjourned.
Perryman will have to pay a £1000 fine and has been banned
from going to games at any ground for the next five years. Michael
Singleton, defending, told the court that Perryman had been
drinking before the match and was now ashamed of his behaviour."Mr
Perryman accepts he took matters further and beyond that which
was taking place into realms that were totally unacceptable."
Neither Blackburn Rovers or Birmingham City have commented
on the outcome of the case (23rd November 2004)

Rovers
respond to Racism claim
Following
reports in all media about the racism incident against former
Rover Dwight Yorke, the club issued this statement on its website
today.
Club
officials including Chief Executive John Williams, Secretary
Tom Finn and Stadium Safety Manager John Newsham today met with
Lancashire Constabulary Chief Superintendent David Mallaby and
Detective Inspector Simon Giles. After hearing reports from
the club's safety officers and studying available CCTV and video
footage of an incident involving a spectator and the Birmingham
City player, Dwight Yorke, Lancashire Constabulary has now launched
a criminal investigation. It goes without saying that we will
give the Police - who now intend to interview all relevant parties
- our full co-operation during the length of that investigation.
We cannot elaborate on the matter as it may prove to be prejudicial,
but we would like to stress that this was an isolated incident
and that we deeply regret any embarrassment caused to Dwight
Yorke and Birmingham City Football Club. Over the years, the
club has worked tirelessly to eliminate racism, working in close
conjunction with organisations like Kick It Out, and we want
to be quite clear that racism will not be tolerated at Ewood
Park. We have kept the Premier League, the Football Association,
the Professional Footballers Association and Birmingham City
fully aware of progress and the general on-going situation.(22nd

3-3
and a great fight back as Rovers grab a point against Birmingham
City.
After a fantastic start and 1-0 after just three minutes (through
Matt Jansen) - Rovers managed to conceded three before the break
to trail 1-3. David Dunn scored in first half injury time, and
the home side needed a special response to pull something out
of the bag. Goals from Steve Reid (first for Rovers) and sub
Paul Gallgher made it a great second half, and Rovers could
easily gone on to win. Mark Hughes was disappointed by the defensive
errors in the first 45 - but delighted by the fight back.
One sad point came when a Blackburn fan was ejected for 'racial
abuse' against Dwight Yorke. Steve Bruce claimed Yorke was the
subject of racist taunts during the game
and Rovers issued a statement after the game saying: "We
can confirm that a spectator was ejected for making what we
understand to be a hand gesture towards Dwight Yorke while he
was warming up. We will fully investigate the matter tomorrow
as part of a full debrief with police and stewards and we will
study all available CCTV footage." (21st

Gally
going nowhere - but the first team!
The Lancashire Evening Telegraph
report that Mark Hughes has turned down two offers to take Rovers
youngster Paul Gallagher on loan. Both Cardiff City and Sunderland
are understood to have both expressed an interest, but the paper
say that Hughes is keen to keep his man at Ewood.
Paul told the LET "I've had a couple of offers to go on loan
- from Cardiff and Sunderland - but Mark Hughes said he wants
me to stay. He said I am part of his plans and hopefully I can
get a few games. I feel ready now and hopefully in the next
couple of weeks I will be able to get back in. He is totally
different from (previous Blackburn boss Graeme) Souness and
he is quieter but the training has been top class and the results
will come." (17th November 2004) |

Swedish
name in the frame - Alexander Ostlund ??
SKY Sports report that Rovers
could launch a bid for Swedish international Alexander Ostlund.
His agent Vincenzo Morabito says that Ostlund could move to
Blackburn if he impresses Mark Hughes when he plays against
Scotland. "Ostlund has impressed when Blackburn have watched
him. There are high chances of a transfer in January."
SKY say that the player started his career with AIK Solna before
he joined Portuguese club Vitoria Guimaraes in 1998. After failing
to play a single game for Vitoria he moved back to Sweden with
Norrkoping before joining Hammarby in 2002.
They believe that Hughes is due at Easter Road on Wednesday
to watch the defender - who can also play in midfield. The 26-year-old
is currently with Hammarby in Sweden. (17th November 2004)

Mark Hughes has targeted Birmingham City's Robbie Savage for
a move to Ewood Park.

will table a £3 million bid for the midfielder. (15th November

Rovers
win - in court.
BBC Sport report that Blackburn
Rovers have won a court case against the insurers who refused
to pay them £4m after Martin Dahlin's career was ended by a
back injury. He's has not played since a training ground injury
just over six years ago. The BBC say "The insurers said
the striker already had a pre-existing degenerative condition
unrelated to the injury. But Blackburn argued the pre-existing
condition was "ordinary wear and tear" and, although they won,
the decision is likely to be appealed against. The judge Justice
Moore-Bick found in favour of Blackburn's argument in that the
pre-existing back problem was a "normal" degree of degeneration
and could not be regarded as a "cause" of injury." (15th

Conrimed
- Parkes leaves Rovers.
Rovers.co.uk have confirmed that Tony Parkes leaves Blackburn
Rovers after 34 years!
Mark Hughes told the club website "I would like to thank
Tony for his massive contribution to the club over such a long
period. The situation with the Reserves, which I inherited,
was under review. When Rob Kelly decided to leave to join Leicester,
I felt it best to look for just one person to take charge. I
felt we needed someone used to working with younger players
to help us continue to develop the club's links with the Academy.
While Tony has great qualities, he has obviously been more involved
with senior football in his time on the staff here, and, as
such, I did not think he was necessarily the man to fill that
role. I am very disappointed that I never got the chance to
tell Tony before it leaked out in the papers. We found out about
Rob last weekend and had a Board meeting when the overall situation
was discussed. My plan was to speak to Tony and inform him of
the situation before training today. Unfortunately, that was
not possible and I am very saddened by that." (12th
November 2004)
Rovers
say that they're 'very sorry' the news of Parkes 'sacking' got
in to the papers before they had time to tell Tony. John Williams
has offered a testimonial to the Rovers veteran - and says he's
always be welcome at Ewood Park (13th November 2004)

Rangers
calling - again??
BBC Sport report that Rangers
Manager Alex McLeish has again admitted he'd like to re-sign
Rovers captain Barry Ferguson. He's quoted as saying "I do
things for football reasons, and if I thought everyone was behind
it - or at least the majority were - Barry, is a player I would
love to have back here."
But the site also quotes Rovers Chief Executive John Williams
as dismissing any possibility of the Scott returning to Glasgow.
Meanwhile Scotland's caretaker manager Tommy Burns has included
Barry Ferguson and Paul Dickov in his plans. Rovers.co.uk say
"Barry currently has 25 Scottish caps and two international
goals and Paul has made seven appearances, scoring once for

R-Kelly
- flies from Rovers to Leicester.
The
man instrumental in the setting up of Rovers much praised academy
has left the club to return to Leicester City where he was a
player. Rovers.co.uk report Chief Executive John Williams as
saying: "We are very sorry to see Rob leave, he has been
a first class member of the football staff. He played a key
role at the Academy and, more recently, when he stepped up to
become reserve team coach, helping the transition between Academy
and senior football. Finding Rob's replacement is very high
amongst our priorities and we hope to make an appointment soon."
After 8 years with Rovers, Kelly stepped down as reserve
team coach to take up a post as part of Craig Levein's new management
team at Leicester. (8th November 2004)

Bothroyd
sees Red - as 10 men Rovers grab a point.
Jay
Botthroyd was shown a straight red for violent conduct on 44
minutes, but Rovers battled well in the second half, and after
conceding to a Mathias Svensson on 55 minutes kept the pressure
on the canaries.
Rovers almost scored from a set piece when Nils-Eric Johansson's
header hit the post. The with only 4 minutes to go, Paul Dickov
picked up a cross from Lucas Neill and headed the goal for the
equaliser.
Reports say that Blackburn played well in the second half, and
could have easily picked up all three points. As it is they
stay bottom of the premiership, but have halted a run of away
defeats. (6th November 2004)

Stephane
Henchoz - Rovers return???
Fans FC report that former Rovers Stephane Henchoz might be
making a return to Ewood Park. The site say that he's has
admitted he is set to leave Liverpool and has been linked
with a return to Blackburn.
Henchoz was signed from Blackburn for £3.5m by Gerard Houllier
in the summer of 1999, and was 30 in September. Henchoz began
his career in his native Switzerland where he played for Stade
Payerne and Bulle, before English born coach Roy Hodgson took
him to Neuchetel Xamax where his career soon took off. He
was to join up with Hodgson again at Ewood, and despite being
voted the club's player of the season in the 1998-99 season
he could do little to avoid Rovers being relegated from the
Premiership. (1st November 2004)
