Chelsea 2

-1 Blackburn Rovers

Over and out ... all the excitemt was elsewhere on final day
Yakubu
YAKUBU
The Yak signed off with another goal to mark the end of a great season for the striker, but already relegated Rovers were very much second best playing an under strength Chelsea. Steve Kean also had to make changes to the side that played for pride, but didn't seem to find any. Two goals in two minutes told its own story with John Terry on the half hour, quickly followed by Raul Meireles. Yaubu scored probably his last Blackburn goal on the hour mark, but even if he'd scored a dozen more it wouldn't have changed anything.
Relegated Wolves and Blackburn were joined by Bolton who were held to a 2-2 draw at Stoke, while ALL the attention was at Manchester City where QPR didn't only look to secure their own position, but also spoil the 'blue moon' dream. At full time, Rangers were well clear of the drop zone, and winning 2-1. Then with five minutes added on, City found two more goals and took the title away from an already celebrating United!! So there IS a 5th name on the Premier League Cup, and the season ended in the most dramatic way imaginable. QPR and Mark Hughes live to fight again.
Derby's against Bolton, Burnley and possibly Blackpool await Rovers - although of course the Tangerines might still make it back to the Prem in their play off final against Big Sam's West Ham. You couldn't write it could you?!? Having written this site for well over a decade - since before Blackburn came back up last time - I can't remember a more depressing season for Rovers, or ever a more amazing finish at both ends of the table. Have a good Summer (13th May 2012)

FINAL PROTEST
That accident waiting to happen - happened. After a season with few wins and even fewer trips outside the bottom three, Blackburn fell at the final home hurdle, and lost by a single goal in a game they HAD to win to have any chance of top flight survival. Now marooned on 31 points in in 19th place, Rovers join Wolves in the Championship next season. They made two changes to offer a more attacking line up, but 'Player of the season' Yakubu failed to get a shot on target, and the Wigan keeper had a pretty quiet evening. Paul Robinson made some key saves to keep the game alive, but Wigan also squandered their chances, and could have had a much bigger winning margin. It took 'till the 86th minute for the breakthrough, a header from Antolin Alcaraz putting pay to Blackburn's misery. The win secured Latics Premier League safety. The only other highlight of a dismal wet Ewood night was the first half appearance of a chicken wearing the Rovers strip (left) . The protesters made their voices heard loudly with continued calls for 'Kean Out' and a change of owners. Certainly there was no sign of any change in the post match interview, when Steve Kean told RADIO ROVERS; "I'm numb, along with the players, along with the fans .I don't think we can fault the players tonight, they gave every ounce... Ultimately we didn't win enough games and we have paid the price for that and it is not a nice feeling, everyone is devastated. It is a massive setback for us, but we have to regroup and we need to build a squad to get us back into this division and move the club forward again. We need to keep the majority of the squad together, that is very important. We need to keep the backbone of the team and strengthen. We need to make a real fist of it from the first game of next season to get us back where we belong."
Many fans believe that is only possible with a change of manager and the total backing on the owners. Radio Rovers finished what might have been their last broadcast playingout with 'I say a little prayer for you' by Aretha Franklin. (7th May 2012)
