It gives the players the huge incentive of going up against some world class footballers. We've some important games to come before then so we'll be concentrating fully on the league with the busy Christmas period coming up, but the players will now certainly have something to play for to try and get in the team for that game. The City fans will undoubtedly travel in large numbers so it will be great to see Ewood full and rocking. It will be a north west derby and a fantastic spectacle for all, I'm sure that it'll be one of the first picks for television coverage."

The FA CUP 3rd - Blackburn Rovers v Manchester City
It was the game chosen to launch FA Cup 3rd Round day on TV, and few expected Blackburn Rovers to earn a replay against one of the top teams in Europe! From the start it was obvious that Rovers had every intention of giving the visitors a hard time - and had periods when they controlled play in all areas. Gary Bowyer was able to recall keeper Paul Robinson for the first time in over a year. He also allowed Jordan Rhodes and DJ Campbell to spend most of the match on the bench. New signing Rudy Gastede started up front. In a great atmosphere Rovers held the visitors 'till the last minute of the first half, and when Negredo gave them the lead. But it only took nine minutes of the second half for Blackburn to find the equaliser - Gestede's shot saved and Scott Dann on hand to net from close range. City played the last five minutes with ten men after Dedryck Boyata was shown a second yellow. But all the post match reaction was full of praise for a start to finish - end to end performance form the boys in Blue & White.
The Manager fro full of praise talking on RADIO ROVERS post match:- "It might be a bit greedy but we could have nicked it at the end. I have nothing but praise and pride for this group, it was a terrific performance against a world class team. The players are a joy to the football club at the moment. They've really restored some pride, the supporters can go away happy with that. We are pleased with how we went about it and how the players responded to going behind. The ages of some of them, it is terrific for them to play in that environment, hopefully it is a motivation for them. The fans pay their money and what they want to see is people having a go and working head and they certainly saw that today from them." Rovers now face a replay at the Etihad Stadium on 15th January at 20:10 hrs [now on ITV]. The Draw for the fourth round will be at 14:00 GMT on Sunday 5th January

The FA CUP 3rd - Manchester City 5 - 0 Blackburn Rovers
The FA Cup adventure ended at Manchester City with Rovers conceding 5 goals without reply - but after holding them out for 45'00 + 23 seconds! Jordan Rhodes and Tommy Spurr were both ruled out through injury, and Gary Bowyer opted to start with DJ Campbell up front. A well managed first half saw some strong defending, and a few clear chances before only moments after a minute of extra time had been signaled Alvaro Negrado scored the first of two. The striker found his second just a minute later - but the other side of the break. At the interval Paul Robinson was replaced with Simon Eastwood after picking up an injury, and it was the sub keeper who saw the power of City's fierce attack. Edin Dzeko added the next, before Sergio Aguero claimed the fourth with Dzeco back for the fifth.
But the traveling fans never stopped chanting and came in for praise from the media and Twitter tweets.
Gary Bowyer told the clubs official website that he had nothing but pride for his team:- "We learned a hell of a lot about our boys in this fabulous arena. One thing they didn't do was lay down and die, that is for sure. We were probably a little bit naive with conceding right on the stroke of half-time again. We then concede a goal right after half-time but the response was great from our boys. I thought the way we went about it, the way we kept trying to play and play at the right times. Pantilimon has made a couple of decent saves. So I've nothing but pride for them. Our boys didn't freeze, they kept going and wanting the ball. We were playing against a world class team, probably the best in the world at the moment. They did alright tonight, they can be proud of how they went about it." The Manager will now turn his attention to the key league game on Saturday at Nottingham Forest - probably far more important a fixture in the larger Rovers picture.
