'Team GB' make it 3! Rovers into the 4th round of the Cup
Gary Bowyer kept his 100% record since taking charge of Rovers first team. After an away win and home win, the stand in manager guided his team to a 2-0 win in the 3rd round of this years FA Cup - and of course collected a second clean sheet. Bowyer had said ahead of the fixture that keeping winning ways was a priority, and he made only one change to the team who beat Nottingham Forest on New Years day. New signing Josh King started on the bench, and Diogo Rosado was in the starting eleven. Captain Danny Murphy was on the score sheet in the 7th minute with a stunning strike that whizzed passed Tom Heaton. Blackburn never looked under any threat and kept creating chances, but had to settle for the one goal lead at the break. Ten minutes into the second period defender Grant Hanley combined with Scott Dann to make it 2-0 and from that point on the game never looked in doubt. Jake Kean pulled off a few excellent saves, but City never really tested the Rovers defense, and even former Rover Jon Stead failed to create any serious challenge.
Just a week after claiming his first Blackburn win, Gary Bowyer with the help of Terry McPhillips was delighted to have made it 3 in 3 and a memorable week for 'Team GB'!
He told RADIO ROVERS: "We wanted to get through to the next round and that is what we have done. We had the added bonus of an early goal and that settled us down quickly. We needed the second goal, Bristol City kept going, they've got a threat up front so we needed Grant's goal. To be fair to Grant at youth level he always contributed with goals and this time last year he scored at Old Trafford so he must like this time of year. It was an important result because it just keeps that momentum, we spoke with the players yesterday and we were honest with them and said we didn't want an 'after the Lord Mayor's show' performance, but I felt they were magnificent once more, the energy and the character showed was truly tremendous. It was a great way to finish the week.... it has been an emotional week, they'll deserve their days off this week and we'll go again against Wolves next Friday."
So Blackburn will be in the draw for the 4th round, and hope to get a home tie with lower league opposition. Both Burnley & Preston were knocked out of the cup, but Blackpool and Bolton both earned replays - so a derby is still possible. However Wolves were beaten by Luton and as a result sacked their manager Stale Solbakken. So Friday nights Championship fixture has now added spice! (5th January 2013)

A very 'Appy afternoon for Rovers - Pride at the Park
A first win for Michael Appleton, also saw a clean sheet, three goal scorers and progress to the FA Cup 5th Round at Derby this afternoon. That should please the new Blackburn boss who started with Josh King in the eleven, but the youngster only lasted 10 minutes before being subbed for Ruben Rochina. Not the most inspiring first half came to an excellent conclusion when Jason Lowe provided Colin Kazim Richards with the ball and with a minute left to play, he put it away to give the visitors the lead at the interval. Rovers were much improved after the half time team talk, and next on the score sheet was Scott Dann with a shot described by Rovers commentary team as one of "the best goal we'll see this season". 2-0 up and 65 minutes on the clock and still plenty of time to claim a third. Five minutes later Markus Olsson provided Jordan Rhodes with the cross and the Blackburn top scorer claimed his 17th for the team this season. Game over! Derby never tested Rovers with the stats showing NO shots on target at all.

The Rams boss Nigel Clough told the BBC: "Blackburn were a bit too good for us although there was nothing in it until we paid for a bad mistake with their first goal just before the break.
After that, their experience and physical strength shone through and our young lads found them hard to handle. Jordan Rhodes and Colin [Kazim] Richards are as big a handful as any attacking partnership at our level and it was also a tough task for our kids to come up against a player like Danny Murphy in midfield."

And for Michael Appleton a very happy afternoon - his first win and into the fifth round. He told the BBC he also has plans to get even better:- "I'm delighted to be making progress in the competition but I still believe we need to bring in a couple more players before next Thursday's [transfer] deadline if possible. There is still plenty to play for in the league and areas where I would like to see us being able to call on reinforcements.
I don't have a budget as such but I am sure the owners would support me if I went to them with a viable deal for the right players. Victory is all-important in the cup but keeping a clean sheet at a place like Pride Park is also a big plus for us. I believe in trying to build a platform and a structure that makes it hard for the opposition to score or get behind us and there were very pleasing signs of that sort of shape developing." Blackburn will hope to continue with their form next Saturday at home when Bristol City return to Ewood Park. (26th January 2013)

The FA CUP 5th ROUND DRAW

Following their 3-0 win at Derby County - Blackburn Rovers were rewarded with an away tie in the 5th round - and will now visit play Arsenal!Talking to the Rovers official website Manager Michael Appleton said:- "I don't think we could have been picked against more tougher opponents, it is obviously going to be a good cup tie, I expect we'll have plenty of support traveling down there. It is a great stadium with a fantastic pitch. The tie is a great opportunity for the players to pit their wits against the best and express themselves but they don't come much harder in terms of away ties. It would have been nice to play them at Ewood Park but it is 11 v 11 at the end of the day, it'll be a day off from the league for us, we'll be able to go there with no fear."

The Full draw is:-
Huddersfield or Leicester v Wigan Athletic - MK Dons v Barnsley - Oldham v Everton - Luton v Millwall - Arsenal v Blackburn - Manchester City v Leeds - Manchester United v Reading - Middlesbrough v Chelsea or Brentford

Rovers historic FA Cup win to reach quarter finals
Michael Appleton took Rovers to the Emirates to make a bit of history - his third team this season in the FA Cup. He went down in history for being the Rovers manager to take his side into the Quarter Finals after a memorable afternoon saw Colin Kazim Richards score the only goal in the game in the 72nd minute to secure a fantastic win and knock the Arenal out of the competition! It was a game that was largely dominated by the Gunners - with the stats showing 26 shots to the home side, and only 6 to the visitors. They hit the woodwork and continually tested Jake Kean the the Rovers back four - but Blackburn stuck in. David Bentley was on the bench and replaced Markus Olsson on the hour mark, With Goodwillie on for Rhodes for the final ten minutes.
Michael Appleton told the clubs official website:- "I've just said to the players that you don't have many days like this. That is the first time Arsenal have lost in the cup here, the first time they've lost to a team from a lower league. You've got to enjoy them and I'll allow them to do that for the next 24 hours and then it is time to concentrate on Hull. We've got a group of players that will work their socks off, are organised, fully focused and are just desperate to keep clean sheets. I believed we could do it, I said to the staff that I genuinely believed we could win the game, I just had a good feeling. There's that vibe about the place, there's great team spirit, there's a really good togetherness. The dressing room is bouncing, we're delighted to be in the semi-finals."

Rovers earn Ewood replay in scrappy away tie & could face Wigan at Wembley
Rovers will meet Millwall again this Wednesday night after a frustrating afternoon at the Den. Rovers Manager Michael Appleton described it as a "Difficult Day" after a poor first half when Blackburn struggled to get the ball down, and created few chances. The second was much better, but by then Adam Henley had already left with a further hamstring injury, to be replaced by Bradley Orr who himself was replaced by David Dunn. The Rover favourite seemed to inject some inject some passion, and the team looked more likely to find a goal, but they struggled all afternoon to break down a dogged home side. When the final whistle went, it was more with relief than celebration, that the game will get a replay at Ewood on Wednesday. The injuries will certainly concern Appleton - post match he said: "It was a difficult day for us, I've lost two right backs through injury. The team has had to chop and change constantly throughout the game, it could have been quite easy for the players to rollover, but they didn't, they stood strong. We switched off once in the game which nearly cost us but ultimately I thought it was thoroughly deserved to get them back to Ewood. With the amount of changes we had to make on the day, to really limit them to one opportunity, which was offside, and long-range shots then we are delighted."
And when the draw was made for the semi- finals at Wembley - Rovers were rewarded with the possibility of meeting Wigan if they overcome Millwall. The other tie will see Manchester United or Chelsea face Manchester City, after United gave up a 2-0 lead to end their home game 2-2. The ties will take place on the weekend of 13 and 14 April.(10th March 2013)

FA Cup Dream ends at Ewood
The Wembley dream is over - Rovers won't be meeting Wigan in the semi's as Danny Shittu's 42nd minute goal was enough to 'devastated' the Rovers players. Despite creating the most chances, and ending the game with four strikers, they were unable to break down the visitors. Leon Best had the best chance - cleared off the line. Jordan Rhodes also came close. But at full time David Dunn had managed a full game and picked up the Man of the Match award - and left the pitch in tears.
Michael Appleton told RADIO ROVERS: " It is very disappointing as you could probably imagine the players are devastated in the dressing room. The lads gave me everything, they worked their socks off. We huffed, we puffed, we had a couple of chances in the second half, a goal-line clearance, but it just wasn't to be. I think it is disappointing the way we conceded the goal. To lose out on a set play in that manner was disappointing. Wembley was the prize at the end of the game today, we knew what it was success or failure. We've failed on this attempt but there are ten games left this season, plenty of football and hopefully we can finish on a little bit of a high. There's no point grumbling about it. It is devastating for the players and everyone concerned, we just have to move on quickly."
