A
brace for Bellamy & debut gaol for Zurab as Rovers beat Huddersfield
Town 3-1 at Ewood
It only took Craig Bellamy 11 minutes to open his account at Ewood,
putting Blackburn 1-0 up in the Carling Cup. Huddersfield Town brought
thousands of fans from across the Pennines, and their League One side
never stopped battling for the equaliser, but on the hour mark, Zurab
Khizanishvili scored his first for Rovers to make it 2-0. Not to be
denied, the visitors made a couple of substitutions, and moments later
Pawel Abbott got one back for the Terriers - 2-1. Paul Dickov and
Craig Bellamy kept applying the pressure, and Bellamy was rewarded
with his second with just 6 minutes to go. 3-1 the final score, and
Rovers progressed to the next round draw on Saturday lunchtime. |

does it again ... so does Emerton and Neill
Rovers 3 - Leeds 0
Leeds
United came to Ewood to play their part in this 3rd Round Carling
cup game - but failed to really test Rovers resolve or goal. It was
0-0 at half time, but Blackburn could have already notched up a good
lead, then with Craig Bellamy on for Shefki Kuqi the whole pace of
the game seemed to change. Craig set up all three goals, first from
Bret Emerton (60'00), then it was Paul Dickov's turn (76'00) and finally
with Leeds down to 10 men Lucas Neill completed the job (89'00). Another
clean sheet for Rovers and a place in the final 16. |

Brilliant
come back - 3 goals in 15 minutes - Rovers make Quarter Finals
Charlton 2 - Blackburn 3
Blackburn looked
to be on their way out of this years Carling Cup, when some remarkable
substitutions turned the game around. Having conceded goals from Darren
Ambrose on 37 minutes and Danny Murphy on 50, Blackburn needed to
come up with some ideas and fast. Mark Hughes took off Brett Emerton
for Shefki Kuqi and within two minutes the sub had scored from 12
yards to make it 2-1. Robbie Savage had already been replaced by David
Thompson who was next to find the back of the net with a fantastic
volley from 30 years - 2-2. Then with just a few minutes left of normal
time, Morten Pedersen threaded through a ball to David Bentley who
scored his first goal for Rovers and the winner! That sees Rovers
join Bolton, Man U and Wigan from the North West in Saturdays Quarter
Final draw. |

Minute goal from Paul Dickov sees Rovers in the Semi's
Middlesbrough 0 - Blackburn 1
Another
game of domination from Rovers with a corner within the first NINE
seconds! But despite plenty of chances and most of the possession,
Blackburn had to wait for the 89th minute to break the deadlock. Shefki
Kuqi was responsible for the pass - and Paul Dickov for the goal that
puts the Blues in the semi-finals of the Carling Cup.. Boro' almost
forced extra time with a good chance in injury time - but it was a
deserved win for Rovers

Ped-again
- Morten makes it 1-1 in the 1st leg
Blackburn 1 - Man Utd 1
Rovers
could/should have scored in the first 30 seconds when Robbie Savage
looked certain to claim his first Blackburn goal - but it took 30
seconds for the first name to go on the scoresheet, and that was Louis
Saha for Utd. It had 100 mph stuff when MGP brought Rovers right back
into the tie with another gem to add to his amazing tally of top class
strikes this season. The second half didn't have the energy and pace
of the first - but it did produce 4 bookings per side, and Craig Bellamy
now looks likely to miss the trip to Newcastle having picked up his
5th yellow.
It was also Ewood's buggest gate of the season, with 24,348 attending
the game..

Rovers
go out of the cup at Old Trafford
Manchester United 2 - Blackburn 1 (3-2 on aggregate)
Ruud
van Nistelrooy opened the scoring for United after just seven minutes
- on a night when Rovers were under strength with Craig Bellamy picking
up a late injury (training yesterday) and Paul Dickov out with the
shoulder injury he picked up at Newcastle. But Blackburn were right
back in it on the half hour when Steven Reid managed to pick up a
Michael Gray cross to slot home at close range. Just before the break
Zurab Khizanishvili was judged to have hand balled - but replays clearly
showed he couldn't have avoided the contact - justice was done when
the resulting penalty from Ruud van Nistelrooy was brilliantly saved
by Brad Friedel. Five minutes into the second half Louis Saha scored
to claim a place in the final with United's second and no way back
for Blackburn. 3-2 on aggregate and a great run in the competition
which sees an all North West final with Man U v Wigan in Cardiff.
