A short tribute:

Although this is a "brochure" rather than news site, it would be unthinkable for me not to note the sad passing of Mr. Jack Walker.

As you no doubt will have already read elsewhere on the web, tributes have been paid by former and present colleagues, players and supporters alike, for the remarkable contribution that "Uncle Jack" made to Blackburn Rovers and his home town.

I have had the great pleasure of working at Ewood Park for each and every home game since the club gained promotion to the Premier League. As a result I've been privileged to watch as the stadium and the team grew in stature - and Mr. Walker's investment and commitment started to build his dream.

Rovers already have a "Walker Steel" and a "Jack Walker" stand - they are a monument in themselves for his devotion to the club. As we watched the Victory at Ewood night celebrations in 1995 - a capacity crowd showed their appreciation for the Champions and for their champion - Mr. Jack Walker.

The scenes will remain in my memory for ever - the standing ovation could have lasted all night - the accomplishment will be talked about for generations.

It was probably Jack's finest hour - and ours. He promised us a top team, and he put the club and the town on the world map for all to see.

I'm sure that the seeds that he planted will bear fruit again - and Rovers WILL be back soon in the top flight. As the Lancashire Evening Telegraph headline says tonight "Let's Win it for Jack" - and may it be a fitting tribute to this remarkable man.

Jack chose Frank Sinatra's "My Way" as his favorite song on Radio Rovers - the lyrics now seem prophetic. I can say no more - but thank you Mr. Walker - you DID indeed do it your way.
